23rd Biennial Meeting of the ISN/ESN - Call for Proposals

Members and non-members are invited to submit proposals for Young Investigator Colloquia, Symposia, Workshops and Satellite Symposia.  Speakers in all different criteria of sessions at the Biennial Meeting can expect support with respect to their expenses and a registration fee waiver.  Approved Satellite Meetings will receive significant support as determined by the ISN Treasurer to ensure their viability.

Appropriate application forms for each category mentioned above can be found on the ISN website and should be completed on-line.

Young Investigator Colloquia

To increase the number of formal oral presentations from young investigators, there will be 8-12 Young Investigator Colloquia, for which we invite young scientists (members and non-members) to apply as speakers.  Speakers will receive a registration fee waiver and significant financial support with respect to their expenses.  The Program Committee will select four speakers for each colloquium.  Thirty minutes will be available for each contribution.  Preference will be given to independent young investigators.  The candidates should be either below 40 years of age or less than 10 years after PhD completion.  Suggested topics are listed below; outstanding speakers in other areas will be considered.
 
Topics

1. Mechanisms of plasticity and memory
2. Mechanisms of glial function, including inflammation
3. Brain injury mechanisms
4. Cell cycle and neurogenesis
5. Neurodegeneration
6. Brain ageing
7. Psychobiology of mental illness, stress and addiction
8. Neurology including virology and oncology
9. Therapeutic strategies in neurodegenerative conditions
10. Extracellular matrix
11. Neurovasculature, blood-brain barrier
12. Receptors, ion channels & protein complexes
13. Glial-neuronal interactions
14. Developmental biology
15. Regeneration in the CNS
16. Neuroimaging
 
When applying online, candidates will be required to provide:

1. Session title/topic (either from the list or “unassigned”)
2. The title of their contribution
3. An Abstract (limit 500 words)
4. A one page Curriculum Vitae
5. List of publications during the last three years.
 
Symposia
 
Members and non-members are invited to submit proposals for symposia.  The speakers can expect a registration fee waiver and significant support with respect to their expenses.
 
When applying online, Chairperson(s) will required to provide for each speaker the following details:
1. The topic
2. The responsible Chairperson(s) (plus email address)
3. Four possible speakers (preferably from different countries) with very short Curriculum Vitae (plus email addresses) and a maximum of 5 key publications for each speaker
4. The reason why the topic of the symposium is important
 
Workshops
 
Workshops are not mini-symposia and can be submitted by members and non-members.  The exchange of ideas among the speakers and attendees is encouraged with a focus on new experimental approaches or conflicting issues.  Some financial support will be provided for each workshop speakers, including four registration waivers, with division of support decided by the responsible Chairperson(s).
 
When applying online, Chairperson(s) will required to provide the following details:

1. The topic
2. The responsible Chairperson(s) (plus email address)
3. The reason why the topic of the workshop is important
4. List of possible speakers (preferably from different countries) with very short Curriculum Vitae (plus email addresses) and a maximum of 5 key publications for each speaker
5. A description of how the workshop will be run to meet the above requirements
 
Satellite Symposia
 
Members and non-members who are interested in organizing Satellite Symposia will be required to provide online a detailed description of the Symposium with details of venue, full scientific content and list of speakers enabling the Program Committee to evaluate the proposal.
