ISN Advanced School
12th ISN Advanced School of Neurochemistry
“Neurochemistry of Glia-Neuron Interaction”
April 16-20, 2013
Chichén Itzá, Yucatán, Mexico
Online application opens - August 01, 2012
Deadline to apply - October 15, 2012
The Advanced School will precede the ISN-ASN Cancun Meeting and will be held in Chichén Itzá in Yucatán, Mexico, approximately 2 hrs. from Cancun. Chichén Itzá means "at the mouth of the well of the Itza” in Mayan language. It is an ancient archeological site of the Pre-Columbian Maya civilization first settled around 600 A.D.
The topic of the School “Neurochemistry of Glia-Neuron Interaction” covers a rapidly developing field both from neurochemistry and molecular and cellular neurobiology, which is a traditional strength of ISN but offers a lot of very promising new developments.
The School will cover aspects of macroglial and microglial development, activity-dependent glia-synapse communication, metabolic cooperation between neurons and glia, axon-myelin-communication, and gliotransmission. Lectures will be given by leading experts in these fields. Students will have the opportunity to present their own work in short oral presentations or posters.
The Advanced School is open for young scientists (graduate students and young post docs up to 4 years after graduation). Students will be selected by the ISN Advanced School Committee and will provide free access to the School including accommodation and transfer to the main meeting in Cancun. A limited number of travel grants will also be available.
