This meeting was held within the University of Edinburgh with international delegates and proved to be a great success with regard to the presented science but also with regard to the interaction between young scientists of leading labs from the field of exocytosis and endocytosis.
The unique format of this scientific workshop for Junior Academics was targeted at a young audience, mainly post-graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, and has again proven to be very successful. We were able to maintain the very high international standard of this event as part of a biennually organized series of conferences, covering the molecular mechanisms involved in exocytosis and endocytosis. As in previous years and unlike most of the ‘mainstream’ meetings, this conference was designed to be a forum for junior academics from many of the leading laboratories in Europe and worldwide to foster scientific exchange and encourage new collaborations between the next generation of scientists and group leaders. With exception of the plenary speakers, the speakers’ list was limited to postdoctoral fellows and young lecturers at the early stage of their careers. To allow a high degree of informal but informative exchange, the size and the chosen format perfectly allowed a very lively discussion. The generous support from the ISN has made it possible to stage this success and we would like to thank you again for the funds. The ISN as one of the main sponsors for the meeting has been advertised throughout the meeting accordingly.
The scientific programme comprised 15 oral presentations and 2 plenary lectures and the speakers were as follows (in order of speaking):
We had 84 registered delegates from the following countries: Canada, France, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the USA.
More details about the meeting can be found at the conference website:www.cip.ed.ac.uk/meetings/exo/exo.htm
The US$ 7,000 allocated by the ISN were spent as conference support (catering) and for travel support for some of the younger speakers as follows (all amounts in GBP):
S. Young £400.32, B. Qualmann £389.38, A. Groffen £90.29, Bukoreshtliev £509.70, S. Rizzoli £364.76, M. Loder £144.40 (total £1,880.85).
General catering (coffee breaks and lunches) £1,950.50
