1)      YOUNG INVESTIGATOR COLLOQUIA

 

To increase the number of formal oral presentations from young investigators, there will be 12-16 Young Investigator Colloquia, for which we invite young scientists (members and non-members) to apply as speakers.  Speakers will receive a registration fee waiver and significant financial support with respect to their expenses.  The program committee will select four speakers for each colloquium.  Thirty minutes will be available for each contribution.  Preference will be given to independent young investigators.  The candidates should be either below 40 years of age or less than 10 years after PhD completion.  Suggested topics are listed below; outstanding speakers in other areas will be considered.

 

COLLOQUIA TOPICS

  1. Advances in the gene transfer techniques aiming at gene therapy of the nervous system
  2. Application of nucleic acid and protein technologies to the nervous system
  3. Extracellular matrix of the brain
  4. Extrinsic and intrinsic factors controlling neuronal identity
  5. Glial-neuronal interactions
  6. Growth of neurites and regulation of growth cones
  7. Formation of protein complexes in cellular membranes
  8. Blood-brain barrier
  9. Ion channels
  10. Imaging the nervous system and its functions
  11. Mitochondria and neurodegeneration
  12. Molecular pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies in neurodegenerative conditions
  13. CNS infections
  14. CNS tumors
  15. Neuroinflammation
  16. Stem cells, cell cycle and differentiation
  17. Regeneration in the CNS
  18. Dynamic changes of synaptic molecules and structures in plasticity
  19. Signaling mechanisms in neurons and glia
  20. Trophic factors and their receptors
  21. What happens to the aged brain?
  22. Psychobiology of mental illness, stress and addiction

 

With the application, candidates should provide:

  1. Session title/topic (either from the list or “unassigned”)
  2. The title of their contribution
  3. A one page abstract
  4. A one page Curriculum Vitae
  5. List of publications during the last three years.

2) SYMPOSIA

 

Members and non-members are invited to submit proposals for symposia.  The speakers can expect a registration fee waiver and significant support with respect to their expenses.  Required details are as follows:

  1. The topic
  2. The responsible Chairperson
  3. Four possible speakers with very short Curriculum Vitae (plus email addresses) and a maximum of 3 key publications for each speaker
  4. The reason why the topic of the symposium is important.

3) WORKSHOPS

 

Workshops are not mini symposia.  The exchange of ideas among the speakers and attendees is encouraged with a focus on new experimental approaches or conflicting issues.  Some financial support will be provided to the speakers.  The applicants should send details of:

  1. The topic
  2. The responsible Chairperson (plus email address)
  3. The reason why the topic of the workshop is important
  4. A description of how the workshop will be run to meet the above requirements.

4) SATELLITE SYMPOSIA

 

Those who are interested in organizing satellite symposia should submit a detailed description of the Symposium with full scientific content and list of speakers enabling the Program Committee to evaluate the proposal.
