1st
Central European Conference on Alzheimer's
Disease and Related Disorders
November 10-13, 2004. Szeged, Hungary.
The 1st Central European
Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders was generously
sponsored by the Conference Committee of the International Society for
Neurochemistry. The Meeting was a highly successful and exciting one with
788 registered participants from Central and Eastern European countries,
and also from the wider international scientific arena.
The kind contribution of ISN-CC made it possible for us to support the
attendance of several young scientists from financially underprivileged
counties. This offered the opportunity for them to exchange ideas and
expertise in an international framework, establish friendships and colleagues
from all over the world and listen to lectures delivered by prominent
leaders. Also, this was a great opportunity for young researchers as a
springboard for developing any scientific collaboration with scientific
centers around the world.
The recipients of the travel award would have never been able to attend
this exciting meeting without the fellowship allocated from the ISN-CC
grant. This generous contribution is so rewarding not just for themselves,
but also indirectly to the members of their laboratory by sharing their
experiences at the Meeting.
We were able to allocate
travel grants in the amount of US$ 25,000 from the contribution of various
sponsors. Out of the 50 recipients, the travel award of 15 young scientists
was sponsored by the INS-CC grant. List of recipients of travel fellowships
- supported by the ISN-CC grant of US$5,000 - to attend the Meeting is
as follows (recipients of travel award supported by other grants are not
listed):
Elena I. Samarova
(Russia): US$ 400
Marat A. Mukhamedyarov (Russia): US$ 400
Andriy V. Dresvyannikov (Ukraine): US$ 250
Andrey Fedorenko (Ukraine): US$ 250

Irma Rukhadze (Georgia): US$ 700
Sergiu Abramovici (Romania): US$ 250
Sinziana Avramescu (Romania): US$ 250
Laura Tarta (Romania): US$ 250
Again, thank you very
much for your magnanimous support that enabled us to grant a travel fellowship
to the above mentioned young scientists originating from financially underserved
countries.
