The aims of the Society are

*to facilitate the worldwide advancement of neurochemistry and related neuroscience disciplines

* to foster the education and development of neurochemists, particularly of young and emerging investigators

Members' Benefits
Members of the Society benefit from:

* dues waiver for the current year of admission to ISN
* lowest registration fee at Society meetings
* free access online and reduced subscription rate to the printed version of the Journal of Neurochemistry
* acces to ISN website and news email alerts
* electronic newsletter

The ISN Biennial Meetings

As an international society, we choose meeting locations throughout the world. The next Biennial Meeting will take place in Busan, Korea from August 23-29, 2009. Travel grants for young investigators to attend the meetings are available by application. Postdoctoral applicants should have received their Ph.D. or M.D. no more than 8 years ago. The travel grants are advertised in Neurochemistry News (The Newsletter of the Community of Neurochemical Societies including ISN), and via the website for the ISN at www.neurochem.org .

Standing Committees of the ISN

The Society offers opportunities to join one of the standing committees, e.g.:

*The Committee for Aid and Education in Neurochemistry, which pursues several initiatives, intended to stimulate neurochemical research in economically deprived and developing countries.
*The ISN Conferences Committee, which funds small international meetings on specialized neurochemical topics.
*The ISN Advanced Schools of Neurochemistry Committee that organizes a course for young scientists on contemporary neurochemical subjects in conjunction with each biennial meeting of the Society.
* The Travel Grant Committee, which awards travel grants for attending the biennial meetings.

Applications for Membership are considered by the Secretary:

Persons from any part of the world

  • who have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree, or
  • who have contributed notably to the advancement of neurochemistry and related neuroscience disciplines;
  • who have amassed a past or present record of neuroscience research through publications in refereed journals and
  • who have a reasonable prospect of continued neurochemically-oriented activities.

Annual dues: US $ 60

Membership dues will be waived for newly admitted members for the calendar year in which they join the ISN. The Society will also waive membership dues, on the basis of annual request and approval, if the economic conditions and currency regulation make such payment a serious hardship. Members vote at ISN business meetings and by email ballot.

Reduced Membership Fee

In case an applicant has only recently begun research in neurochemistry and is in the process of attaining a doctoral degree with a reasonable prospect of continuous activity in neurochemistry, or has held a postdoctoral position for less than three years, the applicant may be eligible for a reduced membership fee of US $ 25..
