About ISN

The global society dedicated to advancing neurochemistry and molecular neuroscience

About us

The International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN) is a nonprofit membership organization and the only global society dedicated specifically to neurochemistry. Founded in 1965, ISN brings together scientists and physicians working at the molecular and cellular level to advance understanding of the nervous system in health and disease.
‍
We are a worldwide community connected by a shared goal: to strengthen neurochemistry and the people who drive it, across regions, disciplines, and career stages.

Who we are

ISN is a global scientific society focused on the molecular basis of nervous system function and dysfunction. Our members work across neurochemistry, molecular and cellular neuroscience, and related areas, united by a commitment to rigorous science, collaboration, and the next generation of researchers.

‍
We are niche by expertise, but global in reach — a professional home for researchers who want to go deeper into the chemistry and biology that underpins neuroscience.

Our mission

ISN's purpose is to:

  • Advance neurochemistry worldwide and support related neuroscience disciplines
  • Foster education and development, particularly for young and emerging investigators
  • Distribute knowledge about neurochemistry and the work of neurochemists across the world.

What we do

ISN supports the neurochemistry community by:

  • Connecting researchers globally across specialties, regions, and career stages
  • Hosting international conferences every two years, supporting scientific events and organising educational activities
  • Supporting the professional growth of researchers through society-led initiatives and opportunities to engage and contribute
  • Promoting excellence in neurochemical research and collaboration worldwide
