European Synapse Meeting 2024

May 2 - May 4

The synapse hosts a key defi ning event in the fi eld of neurochemistry: synaptic transmission. The transition between an electrical, chemical and back to an electrical signal at the synapseis controlled by biophysical, biochemical, physiological, and cell biological processes thattogether underlie the transfer of information within neuronal networks. These processes willbe at the center of the European Synapse Meeting 2024 (ESM2024). The European SynapseMeeting (ESM) is an international conference that was established to strengthen the bondswithin the European synapse community, and serve as a focal point for networking andexchange of novel synaptic research. It was fi rst held in Bordeaux in 2007 and successfullycontinued at different European locations. The 9th ESM will be hosted in 2024 by CampusBuch, home to the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) and theMax Delbrück Center (MDC). Prominent scientists in the fi eld of synaptic research will covertopics including the molecular synapse (e.g. Kang Shen, Silvio Rizzoli, Zoltan Nusser), synapticphysiology (David DiGregorio, Stephan Hallermann), Synaptic metabolism (VassilikiNikoletopoulou, Natalia Kononenko, Gaia Novarino), cell biology of the synapse (Joris de Wit),synaptic homeostasis (Inna Slutsky, Alexander Walter), and synaptic disorders (MichelaMatteoli, Susanne Wegmann). Alongside, we invited junior group leaders at the early steps ofestablishing their independent research (Nelson Rebola, Susana Louros). Finally, at least fourof the talks will be devoted to excellent junior researchers at the PhD and postdoc level. Westress the importance of this meeting in strengthening neurochemistry-related sciencesacross the European research landscape, and supporting emerging scientists in the fi eld. Inthat, our aim in organizing this meeting well-aligns with the mission of the ISN, to ‘facilitate theworldwide advancement of neurochemistry… foster the education and development ofneuroscientists.. and to disseminate information about neurochemistry’.
