I have been an active ASN member since 1997, serving as a council member and program chair for the 2014 meeting in Long Beach, CA. From 2021 to 2023, I took on the role of society treasurer, and in 2023, I served as local chair for the ASN meeting in Lexington.
Organizing two ASN meetings and managing society finances during the challenges of the pandemic and a transition in conference management has given me a solid understanding of what it takes to support our meetings and society. Thanks to an incredible leadership team and strong collaboration with ISN, we have been able to keep ASN on a successful path. I am excited to build on this experience and bring fresh ideas to the ISN, connecting and supporting an even wider community of neurochemists.
My research centers on lipids, with a particular focus on sphingolipids that are essential for brain development and function. This work has provided me with a broad perspective on both “classical” neurochemistry and cutting-edge omics approaches in molecular biology and neuroscience, as well as their integration.
As an ISN council member, I am committed to fostering a balanced and inclusive representation of these areas to drive the future of neurochemistry. My roles as an editorial board member for tier-one journals (Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Lipid Research) and as a newly appointed handling editor for the Journal of Neurochemistry position me to amplify ISN’s outreach to scientific communities in lipid research and neuroscience. Additionally, I actively engage with and help organize meetings for other scientific communities, further expanding ISN’s visibility and promoting its research priorities, mission, and vision.
